Hello. I am the Solicitor of the 7th Judicial Circuit. Before being elected Solicitor, I was a federal prosecutor in Greenville prosecuting all federal crimes ranging from bank robbery to kidnapping, from drug trafficking to murder.
Being a prosecutor has taught me many valuable lessons: (1) there are infinitely more good people in the world than bad; (2) that life is fast and fragile and we should pursue our goals with enthusiasm, optimism, and vigor; (3) and that law and order, respect for others, personal accountability and a shared desire for community well being are the threads that bind us the tightest and the core of an orderly society.
The main lesson I have learned as a prosecutor is that all of us bear a collective responsibility for the welfare of our community, state, and nation. If we witness something happening that is not right or not in the best interest of others, we have a responsibility to intervene and correct it. That is true in a law enforcement context, and it is true in a governmental context. This is why I am running for Congress in the 4th Congressional District.
I am running because there has been a steady but sure erosion of the fundamentals that undergird our democracy. I am running because federal government spending is reckless, irresponsible, and out of control. I am running because the federal government is seeping into all aspects of our culture and threatening freedom. I am running because there is a near total disconnect between Washington and the people of the 4th Congressional District. I am running because we need new, bold ideas on issues ranging from energy independence to health care reform. I am running because we need an economic environment that fosters the entrepreneurial spirit that made this the grandest country on earth.
I am running because the people we sent to change Washington wound up being changed by Washington, and I believe public service should be principled, humble and inspire trust and confidence in people.
We have a compelling message of personal responsibility, freedom, and economic opportunity. We have a compelling message that much like families are fundamental to society, jobs are fundamental to families and that our political philosophy and policies must create an economic atmosphere conducive to job creation and retention. People want solutions and we must provide those solutions in a principled way with positive enthusiasm.
Over the next few months I will be sending you a series of emails laying out my plans of how we can change Washington. I hope you will take the time to visit my website often, watch my frequent videos, and most importantly, share your ideas.
Together we can celebrate what is great and good about America, spread a message of positive conservatism, and stem the tide of the current administration’s policies which are launching our country into a freefall toward a socialistic, Washington-centric agenda.
I hope I can count on your support.
Sincerely,
Trey Gowdy

Glad to see things shaken up.
Good Luck!
You claim “I am running because we need new, bold ideas on issues ranging from energy independence to health care reform.”
What are your ideas? Please be specific!
How you are going to get these ideas to become reality?
All too many people running for a political position lately claim what they are against and vaguely talk about popular hot topics describing how much they are going to improve our lives.
Talk is cheap and plentiful, good ideas are few, and action to get those few good ideas to become reality is even scarcer.
President Obama has taken action to open up more off-shore drilling areas and Democrats have passed the Health Care Bill even with total Republican opposition. I have heard the Republicans saying they have better ideas for health care, but when pressed for their better ideas, I hear NOTHING!
I have heard the Republicans shout “Hell NO”, but heard no clear ideas as to what they would propose for health care or energy independence.
Bob Inglis sent me an E-mail stating what he was opposing, but when I asked what ideas he was going to propose to help America, I received ‘NO Response’.
I am ashamed of being a Republican because I see NO real action or good ideas from my party.
Don’t be just another person running for a political position and vaguely talk about popular hot topics.
PLEASE, if you are going to run for political office, state you are going to propose and how you are going to get these proposals to become law.
Just viewed your TV ad again; total turn-off. First, Washington does not need another attorney! Congress does not need another attorney with the “I’m right, you’re wrong!” approach to law making. I happen to agree with your platform, but not your attitude. In fact, I hope that voters will send all the DC lawyers home and send businessmen and women to Congress. Its not your fault; lawyers are trained to argue and not get along. The more they argue, the more money they make. I know, you’re a prosecutor only interested in justice for the bad guys. Commendable, but congressional action requires compromise, like it or not. Think of it as a plea down agreement.

Paul E. – Trey is a true conservative, a dedicated public servant and has integrity. Congressional action does require compromise, but not at the expense of one’s own values. See above.
GO Trey!
Just heard the debate on WORD radio–just like his entire campaign, Trey was classy and someone we can be proud of!
Great win last night! I beleive everyone is very excited about your future and the future of our country, with you in Washington!
