South Carolina’s unemployment numbers remain gloomy. http://bit.ly/5kPWhV. Economic recovery and job creation should be foremost on the minds of lawmakers. A job is not just an economic marker. In my judgment it’s the ultimate family value. There are scores of our fellow citizens who desperately want to provide for their families, they want to meet their obligations to the larger community, they want the ability frankly to help others who are in equal or greater need, and they want the freedom that comes with economic stability. Family is the subset of society and a job in a real sense is a foundation of family. And it should be crystal clear by now that government is not the answer to job creation. Jobs are created by the private sector (in response to demand) and the private sector remains understandably vexed by governmental encroachment and intrusion. Reduce payroll taxes, reduce corporate tax rates, and stop mulling energy taxes and health care taxes. Incentivize productivity, stop punishing success and productivity and give small businesses – who are the real job creators – a sense of assurance that government will stop bankrolling entitlement programs on their backs. Give the job creators the freedom to create jobs.

Well said Mr. Gowdy. Ronald Regan called a job “the best wellfare program he could think of”. Lets us reduce taxes and regulations on small business owners. We should encourage our citizens to start businesses and grow our economy the way it was envisioned by our founders. Let us stand agains “cap and trade” legislation that would allow for growth of only the largest corperations. Small businesses and the individual business owner is the real engine of our economy, and it is great to read that you support them. Bravo.
