• Congressman Bob Inglis is either a liar or totally clueless about what’s going on in his desperate campaign to save his job in Washington and all the perks to which he’s become so enamored.

The former is more likely considering that…

The State Ethics Commission found a claim by best buddy and Treasurer Jeff Parker that challenger Trey Gowdy misused some solicitor’s race funds for a Web site to be without merit. Now Inglis says he knew nothing of the complaint, but the investigation was “inadequate,” so he’s looking to the Federal Election Commission to help him out.

    Didn’t know? That defies belief.

He wants Washington to help him out.

    That doesn’t wash.

Not surprising from a guy who prefers “Let’s Talk” to “Let’s Listen.”

We’re calling on the incumbent to do what’s right: reimburse the taxpayers for the cost of investigating his spurious claim.

One must wonder how he knows the state review was “inadequate?” If he knew that, the very filing suggests it was a political ploy aimed at shifting the debate away from his record and from real issues that affect real people.

It’s the kind of Beltway doublespeak we can expect from a one-time reformer turned career politician with the South Carolina delegation’s most liberal voting record, a guy who’s got a good gig, free trips to exotic locales, and a staff working on the taxpayers’ dime to keep him there.

If the incumbent is so concerned about the rule of law, one must wonder why his campaign broke South Carolina law by improperly disclosing the filing before the Ethics Commission had ruled. And, his concern for the use of campaign money rings a little hollow considering that he and Parker used to play the stock market with donors’ funds.
