Economy – We must have an economic environment that nurtures and encourages entrepreneurship. Small business is the engine that drives our economy. Government places too many demands, dictates too many directives, and imposes too many regulations on small business. The tax code should be changed. Capital gains taxes should be reduced to provide an incentive to save and invest. Payroll taxes should be reduced to stem the tide of government using business to collect and implement its costly programs.
Taxes and Spending – Government spending is reckless, out of control and threatens to undermine the fundamentals that undergird our democracy. From bailouts to takeovers to the threatened nationalization of our healthcare system, Government creates the problem then contends we need more money to fix the problem. Congress must be forced to observe the same fiscal restraint we show in our own lives. Congress has mortgaged the future of this country and spending must be brought under control. Now!
Job Creation – I will aggressively market our district and actively recruit industries and companies to our area to create jobs. We have a wonderful product to sell with the quality of our workers and the quality of life in the Upstate. I will take every opportunity to promote our region, recruit new industry and retain the industry we have. The best way a congressman can do that is to oppose excessive government regulations, oppose reckless spending and oppose the constant burdens and directives placed on business by an ever creeping government. In short the message should be clear that small business drives the economic engine of our country and we will support measures that foster the spirit of entrepreneurship.
National Defense – National defense is the preeminent function of Government. We must be prepared to defend ourselves, our allies, and our interests. And we must remember that among the grand resources and treasures of our country, the most precious resource we have is the blood of our sons and daughters in uniform.
Education – My grandfather had a 6th grade education but he valued education for his children and insisted on it for my mother. My father started working when he was 12 so he could afford to go to college. Education allowed our family to go from a 6th grade education to a medical doctor and a prosecutor. This is the American dream, and it is worth celebrating and fighting for. I believe education is a state and local matter and while the federal government is free to share resources, share success stories of innovation from other states, and free to encourage research and creative experimentation, the decision on how to educate our children is a state and local one.
Healthcare – First the good news: Our doctors are the best in the world. Our survival rates for major illnesses and diseases are better than countries that have nationalized healthcare. And we value the ability to see the doctor of our choice when we want to see that doctor. But healthcare costs are growing and the threat of a national takeover is looming. Excessive government regulation and dictates have added to the cost of private insurance. A lack of transparency within our healthcare system makes it easier to make an informed decision about a hotel room or the purchase of an automobile, than it does to make informed decisions about our health. Health insurance should be reasonable and affordable and our tax and regulatory structures must be changed to insure this.
Public Safety – Law and Order, Respect for the Rule of Law, and Public Safety are essential to an ordered society and among the preeminent functions of government. I have had the privilege of working in the criminal justice system for 15 years as a prosecutor in state and federal court. We must support and honor the men and women of law enforcement and insist on a criminal justice system that is fair, effective, and efficient.
Sanctity of Life –I am pro-life plus. I believe in the sanctity of life. I also believe the strategy should be broader than waiting for the Supreme Court to revisit Roe v. Wade. We must support crisis pregnancy centers, incentivize adoption, and educate women on preventing pregnancies. We can put our pro-life beliefs into real, tangible action and demonstrate a consistent, unwavering support for the sanctity of life.
2nd Amendment – The 2nd Amendment was written and ratified by the same people who wrote and ratified the other constitutional amendments liberals find sacrosanct. As a former federal prosecutor who worked on firearms cases, I can assure you there are sufficient federal laws existing in place to provide for community safety and security. The rights of law abiding citizens to bear arms should always be protected.

Hello Mr Gowdy,
I have a question about your position on healthcare if you do not mind. As it stands right now, I think that our federal government is passing this healthcare bill “just to have a bill passed on healthcare”. I have seen no benefits from it and I have been in contact with several in the healthcare field, including a Dr’s wife who owns their own private practice (he also to teaches at UCLA medical center as well). They have insisted that this bill will force them out of business due to being forced to take less for care. Not only that but I have issues with the constitutionality of the way this bill is being crammed down our throats. I noticed that you said that there must be changes by changing our tax and regulatory structures. I THINK that I know what this means but could you be a little more specific please? I’m not asking for a proposal or anything like that, just some reassurance that you would not be part of this bill being (i’ll be gentle…) pushed through.
Mr. Inglis has proven that he is out of touch with his constituents and that he is more willing to go along party lines instead of what the people want.
I hope that you are well and that the family is doing good.
Take good care Sir,
Anthony
BTW, Merry Christmas to you and your family!
(I’m still in Iraq and will be until Oct. 2010)
Dear Mr. Gowdy: Your website is very state-of-the-art. Your beliefs in the “issues” section are very good, as far as they go. I sincerely admire your hard work, and all the sting operations on TV which I see that you are involved in, to keep our communities safe. However, I am looking for a candidate who will go one step further, and bravely name the honorable name of Jesus Christ, as the only governing hope for our country. The 56 signers of the Constitution knew well that He is the secret to empower the Constitution, which we Republicans also claim to revere and protect. Best wishes to you and your fine family for a good campaign!
I support you and your views. Although I am young being still a minor for another month, I have had my share of growing up in a house where the news i almost always on TV, radio, or being looked at online. I do not know too much about the deal with Inglis, but I am personally not focused on that. I am more focused on who can sell a legit case for what he stands for and who will really abide by his promises. I am tired of reading history and watching political leaders today make promises that are not kept. As a teenager, I realize that what politicians do today influences my generation heavily and that it will be very difficult to reverse the damage done by the Obama administration. I also support your health care views. I am tired of my government taking our money (that we do not have) to pay for things that will hurt us worse and for other people’s mistakes when there are more important issues to spend that money on. I don’t want to live my entire life in debt because my government wants to play power house when it doesn’t know what it is doing. I support your views on the Sanctity of Life. I myself am a product of adoption. I have had an interesting life, one of many challenges and of many blessings. As someone who has been in the place that you are trying to promote, I plan on backing you 100%. My only question is how? I agree with your views, but the problem with the people and the government is that there are too many secrets keeping the people (who matter most) in the dark then expecting them to jump the wagon. How exactly do you plan to use our voices in an effective way in Congress? I hope you the best and look forward to being able to register to vote for this years election. Your son and our teacher discuss\ you and your views often in class (I have history with your son). If he can do great in school and he acts the way he does and he is your son, I believe our district is in the right hands. His behavior has to stem from some place with good demonstration. That is what this district needs. Thank you and God Bless!
Do you support the renewal of the “NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND”? I am a teacher who knows it has basically ruined a teachers ability to teach. I would love to know your response to this.
Thanks,
Eddie Hall
Mr. Gowdy,
I am wondering if you recognize that all of the problems with government that you are concerned with stem from the misguided policies of the Bush adminstration. Do you think these issues have been created in the last 18months? Do you recognize any strides we have made as a nation in redeeming ourselves in the eyes of the rest of the world since we pulled ourselves out of the ditch of bad PR Mr. Bush dug?
Question? Where do you stand on Congressional Term Limits?
I graduated SHS in 1984 and I haven’t seen Trey in a while, but I know that he is a Christian and stands for whats right. I will give him my vote any day of the week. GREAT JOB !!!!
Trey,
I appreciate your beliefs; I appreciate you running for congress. I have appreciated the work you do as a prosecutor; I hope that you can keep your promise that Washington will not change you because it seems to do that to so many good candidates once they get in there. I will definitely vote for you this time around. Thanks making it clear where you stand on pro-life; and that you are a conservative.
Shona
Hello Mr. Gowdy,
I’m searching for a new conservative representative to vote for, my old friend Bob Inglis forgot he was my representative. Now he’s just another politician. He had the same promise as in your commercial, (although many years ago) that he wouldn’t forget his ideals, it seems Washington brainwashes good men. How are you not going to be twisted into Gov’t solutions? What your opinion on Lobbyist & out of state campaign money? What’s your opinion on term limits? My opinion is that twelve years of representation is about all we can afford.
Thanks,
Ed G.
Trey – Have you developed a point of view on energy policy? In my opinion, we have to stop subsidizing fossil fuels if we ever want to stop “aiirmailing” $$$ to our enemies year after year. It seems to me that energy policy should be both bi-paritsan and include everything, including a price on carbon and renewable energy. China is doing both and is getting ready(or already has) to kick our butts when it comes to strategic energy resources. If we Republicans don’t realize that energy independance and clean air are our issues, not the democrats’, then we will miss one of the most signifcant policy issues of our generation.
Hope you get elected and make a difference!
